Rangers players have suffered mixed fortunes at this summer’s European Championships with only Glen Kamara getting the opportunity to showcase his ability on the highest stage, an opportunity he has grasped with both hands.

Already we have seen Arsenal and Watford joining a host of other clubs said to be monitoring the Finland international with his performances in his side’s opening two group stage games only further enhancing his growing reputation something that has seen his national team manager, Markku Kanerva, tip him for a move to a “bigger team”, as reported by AFP:

“Hopefully he will continue his development, it would be nice to see him playing even at bigger clubs.”

With two years left on his Rangers contract, Kamara is one of our most valuable assets and talks of a new deal have already been tentatively discussed, however, given the season that he has just had, his age and displays in the Euros, there would be no greater time to cash in on a player who is one of the best value transfers the club has ever seen.

We’ve already seen in England with Arsenal’s reported bid for Ben White, said to be around £40million, that Covid-19 has had little effect on their finances when it comes to transfer fees and we should hold firm on any below market valuations for a player that would cost a fortune for a Premier League team if he was in the Championship.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

It’s bizarre when you consider his status as an established international and the number of European games he has played – and starred in – for Steven Gerrard that clubs would think they could pick Kamara up for less than £10m.

Having transitioned fully to being a selling club, we will have to get used to our best players being around for less time before being sold at a profit and few players will have as big a turnaround as the Fin, it was, after all, a pittance that we paid Dundee for him, I just can’t remember how much for…..
