Gers fans don’t agree on much, but one thing we can agree on is that midfield is the area of our team that needs most attention this transfer window.

Age, contract status, injury and transfer speculation are the main reasons for needing to identity potential targets and former England team-mate of Steven Gerrard, Danny Mills, claims that the Rangers boss will be hoping that the recent update on Ryan Jack’s fitness could save him a punt or two, as reported by Football Insider:

“This time of the year, it’s all about players who were injured getting over the injuries and getting ready for the new season.

“It’s also about getting your recruitment right and having your plan laid out for the season. You’ll have one or two options to bring players in.

“That’s what Steven Gerrard will be thinking about over the course of the summer. ‘The players that are injured, how far away are they to returning to full fitness? Who can I bring in, in that situation? Who can make our team better?’

“It’s called the ‘off-season’ but it’s not really because behind the scenes, so much is going on.

“You’ve only got until the end of August to get your business done and with the Euros it’s all very congested.

“It’s about now and getting the players back fit and the recruitment right for the now, ready for the business end of the season.”

Jack is expected to return in time for pre-season and, if his rehabilitation goes as well as planned, he should be like the proverbial new player, no longer walking a fine line between being available and breaking down at short notice.

The player himself was in good spirits on Sky Sports which augurs well for when the players return to start preparations for the Champions League qualifiers and, if the Scotland international is given a clean bill of health, it will be one less thing for Gerrard to worry about.
