Some times there are transfers that just make sense.

Already this summer we have seen reports of bids being rejected for George Edmundson with the centre-half doing enough during his loan spell at Derby County last season to suggest that he is worth a punt at that level, but, surprisingly, The Scottish Sun claims that he may be given a second chance by Steven Gerrard.

This news comes as it is revealed that Peterborough United have the 23-year old at the top of their shopping list for their return to the Championship, looking to secure the services of a player with Europa League experience for a “six-figure sum”.

For a start, you’ll need to go higher than that, Rangers paid £650,000 to Oldham a couple of seasons ago and he is a better player now than when he first joined, his performance away against Braga a true marker of what he is capable of.

But there is another possible solution.

Edmundson will be as low as fifth in the pecking order, however, this doesn’t mean that Ross Wilson will accept the first offer that comes along, if only Peterborough had something else they could offer us…

Siriki Dembele and Jonson Clarke-Harris have both been watch by Rangers this season, the former is fast approaching the last 12-months of his contract and they are actively looking to cash in on him, with 12 goals and 12 assists last season, the Scotland eligible forward played a key role in their promotion from League 1.

The latter would cost considerably more given that he only signed for Posh last season and because he fired in over 30-goals, plus, at 26-years old, he wouldn’t really fit our new transfer model given that their would be limited sell on value for him.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

A swap deal between Edmundson and Dembele could work though, we are well catered in the middle of defence and the Peterborough forward would be an upgrade on Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker, he would also be classed as a home grown player for European competition.

Edmundson might have a “not for sale” sign round his neck but, as we’ve heard so many times in the past – every player has their price tag.
