Panic stations have well and truly been commenced after reports on social media late last night suggested that Steven Gerrard is keen to become Aston Villa’s next manager despite there being no contact between the two clubs.

Why he would want to leave a club that is two games away from a cup final and knock out football in Europe as well as top of the league and four points clear is beyond me but then again, I’m not Steven Gerrard and have no idea what he is thinking.

The reality is that the press have no idea either but in the race to be first, some outlets have nailed their colours to the mast with articles that suggest more than they actually say, for example, I’ve seen about four different compensation figures from  newspapers and blogs that claim to be in the know – they can’t all be right.

This hasn’t stopped fans from getting worked up though with the thought of losing Gerrard at such a pivotal time of the season too much for some of them to take:

There is never smoke without fire but fires tend not to make stuff up in the hope that they get more page views, until there has been an approach from Villa that Rangers announce, there really is nothing to get worked up about. hopefully Ross Wilson has his mobile switched off and his landline unplugged.
