Social media is a different world, a law unto itself and a place where rumours can become fact at an astonishing speed.
Late last night, The Telegraph produced a story that claimed Steven Gerrard is interested in the vacant Aston Villa manager’s job and that, if Rangers allow him to speak to them it, he could be in place before the end of the international break.
Steven Gerrard is interested in being Aston Villa’s next manager, with the ambitious Midlands club set to make an official approach to Rangers | @SamWallaceTel @JPercyTelegraph & @Matt_Law_DT https://t.co/wn1or0usR2

The three journalists who put their respective names to the story all have solid reputations, however, it must be remembered that it is all conjecture just now – that Rangers have confirmed there has been no approach tells us exactly where we are currently at.
It should also be considered that the same outlet claimed that Nuno Espirito Santo had been told he was going to get more time at Tottenham Hotspur only to be sacked the next day, and that Paulo Fonseca was set to be named as Newcastle United manager.

We have seen – since Ross Wilson arrived – that nothing gets out of Ibrox now unless we want it to and Steven Gerrard is one of the most loyal and honest personalities in football, we only have to look back at before he was appointment manager to see how he conducts himself.
Will Gerrard go to Aston Villa?
Yes
No
It’s a stressful time and a new experience for many Rangers fans, after all, when was the last time another club coveted our manager? We should be thankful that he is doing a good enough job to attract interest in the first place.
