Top ranked manager wants Villa job, good news for Rangers

|

Things are starting to get interesting with regards to the Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa story, not just because some outlets are claiming that he is their number one target but because there is also another horse in the race – which is good news for Rangers,

Roberto Martinez is currently Belgium’s manager, ranked number one in the world but yet to really delivery on the big stage with a golden generation of players including some of the best in the world, but according to reports, is keen to return to club management and, in particular, with Aston Villa.

If the Premier League side have a list of candidates and one – hopefully Gerrard – is unconvinced or his club make negotiations difficult, it could open the door for another to take the job.

Martinez obviously has experience of the league, with a mixed record of success, but is still a big enough name now to attract players to a club currently languishing towards the bottom end of the table.

Will Gerrard go to Aston Villa?

Yes

No

No

Given their two respective careers, Gerrard has an awful lot more to lose should he take the job and it not go well in the first six-months, he could find himself in the Championship and back at square one in his career which has the ultimate goal of replacing Jurgen Klopp Liverpool manager.

If the Martinez story is true, it would make Ross Wilson’s job a lot easier, especially if Villa are in a hurry to appoint someone new, fingers crossed that they are.
