Antonio Colak was our first real signing of the summer with John Souttar having agreed his pre-contract move in the January transfer window, the big Croatian striker providing much needed support to Alfredo Morelos and competition to Kemar Roofe for a regular starting role.

The 28-year old looks like he will be thrown in at the deep end with the established pair both still out injured and there is every chance that, if he starts well, it is his jersey to lose.

As well as holding onto his place, Colak has additional motivation in the shape of the World Cup halfway through the season and, speaking to The Rangers Review, it looks as though it is a key motivation for him to do well at Rangers but he knows that he will be up against it to force his way ahead of the others in the queue:

“Last year, I qualified with them for the World Cup and I hope to get back there again. It’s a big target at the end of the year for me. But first I have to do my work here at Rangers and then see what will happen.

“If you are playing at big clubs then you will always have quality players in each position. There is always competition. There is always a lot of pressure but I am looking forward to working hard and improving. I want to be successful. Everybody wants to be successful.”

He looked good in his 45 minute cameo against Sunderland with the small amount of possession he was afforded, his hold up play looked every bit as good as Morelos’s and it was a shame that he didn’t get more than one snap shot at goal. Personally, I think Colak will surprise a few people and, if he hits his Malmo form from last season, he could well be on the plane to Qatar.
