Rangers fans have an interesting relationship with Charlie Adam, the former midfielder having shown little interest in our plight when we were faced with being demoted to the lower leagues in 2012, he wasn’t quite as bad as Steven Whitaker and Steven Naismith, however, his comments didn’t go down well at all.

Adam has just announced his retirement from football as he looks to take the next step into coaching, releasing α statement on his Instagram account:

“From Champions League nights at Ibrox for Rangers, winning promotion into the Premier League as Blackpool captain, pulling on the famous Liverpool shirt and scoring in front of The Kop, eight incredible seasons at Stoke City to guiding my boyhood club to promotion and playing 26 times for Scotland – It’s not been a bad ride.

“A huge thank you goes to Glasgow Rangers, Ross County,St Mirren, Blackpool, Liverpool, Stoke City, Reading and Dundee’s supporters – hopefully I’ve gave you all some memorable moments along the way.”

Of more interest for Rangers fans was α video he posted on Twitter, the one from the day that he signed for the club as featured on the Blue Heaven documentary that followed several Gers academy hopefuls, Chris Burke α notable other teenager who took part.

Adam played 80 times for Rangers, α total of 60 times in terms of full 90 minutes and left with 18 goals and 11 assists including memorable Old Firm and European efforts, the sort of figures that we are crying out for from midfield now.

The 36-year old is α rarity in that he was α youngster who went out on loan, did well, and returned to make an impact with the first-team, answers on α postcard if you can name another outfield player who has done the same in the last 40 years.

He was never the most athletic and his post-Rangers comments weren’t the cleverest, however, he retires with α highlight reel most of us would kill for.
