Celtic and sporting integrity eh….

They’ve never been a club fond of facts or accuracy when it comes to creating faux outrage and Malik Tillman’s goal against Partick Thistle is no different.

The USA international, as explained by Michael Beale, had no idea what happened after he had his ankle stamped on and was oblivious to the fact that it was a Rangers player who had knocked the ball out of play and that Thistle were going to – eventually – give the ball back.

Apparently, physical evidence and the explanation of the manager isn’t enough, let’s remind ourselves of just how hypocritical a fan base they really are.

In. 2019/20, Celtic led the way in demanding that the rest of the season couldn’t be played and that the only way forward was to hand them the title. What ensued was an embarrassment to Scottish football. Miraculously, other countries managed to fairly complete the season.

In the same year, the Scottish Cup, rather than getting cancelled, was re-arranged for the following season against a side that was relegated and had barely kicked off their own campaign due to restrictions on lower league football. Celtic on the other hand had strengthened in the summer.

In 2021/22, football had to be stopped again. Nothing to do with Celtic’s injury crisis that saw an Old Firm derby re-arranged for a date that saw them line up with almost half a new team and have injured players back fit whilst Rangers had to make do without on-form talisman Alfredo Morelos.

And these are just the recent examples without mentioning tours of Japan or how they disgustingly capitalised on the tragic death of Phil O’Donnell. Sporting integrity? I’ll tell the jokes.
