Rangers have been linked with numerous keepers over the last couple of seasons, some more realistic than others, but it would appear that the latest rumour is one that has a little more substance.

Replacibg Allan McGregor isn’t going to be easy, however, Ross Wilson needs to find someone who is experienced but is still young enough to be the last line of defence for the foreseeable future.

Norwich City’s Angus Gunn would appear to be that man, the 27-year old currently at the centre of an international tug-of-war although I’m not sure that England are putting up that much of a fight to keep their former Under-21 stopper.

Rangers have been mentioned as keeping an eye on the son of Bryan Gunn – the ex-Scotland international – as reported by journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page:

Rangers are watching Angus Gunn’s problems at Norwich City as they look for a new number one.

“The Glasgow club’s transfer supremo Ross Wilson knows Gunn from his time at Southampton and the big shot stopper could fill their long term vacancy.

“Gunn was axed by David Wagner when he took charge and there is no way the Canaries keep him as a reserve.

The experienced keeper could take the high road to Scotland in the summer when Rangers will sign someone to replace veteran Allan McGregor.

“Gunn would also have the added bonus of putting himself in the frame for the Scotland team as he is open to playing for the land of his father Bryan after previously turning out for England.”

Gunn has top level experience with Southampton, when Wilson was sporting director, Stoke City and Norwich but Rangers and the pressures that comes with being our new number one.

It’s an interesting link and one to keep an eye on, but I wouldn’t jump the gun on any potential announcements just yet…
