Oh dear.

On a night when their own team was winning and closing the gap on Rangers, Celtic “legends” were more obsessed with what was happening at the other side of the country at Ibrox.

After gifting Aberdeen a two-goal lead, Steven Gerrard’s side eventually kicked into life but it wasn’t until the 80th minute after the introduction of Fashion Sakala that they got back on level terms.

The Zambian international loves playing on the last man and running in behind defences and, on this occasion, got the better of David Bates who was left with the decision of letting him go or attempt to pull him back – he chose the latter and, for once, John Beaton got a big call right.

Several neutrals – including BBC Sportscene pundits – backed the decision but, guess who didn’t?

Yep, moon-howling, dog whistlers, John Hartson and Chris Sutton.

We know what the pair of them are like and that it shouldn’t be a surprise and yet, still, after all these years, you can tell they are haunted by decisions that went against them in the past. Every season Hartson will post his “goal” that never was, he neglects the penalty he missed but then again, it’s always someone else’s fault eh?

For Sutton to brand a decision – which was correct – as the “worst ever” says it all about him, attempting to pile the pressure on yet another referee that has made a call that benefits Rangers, regardless of how good it actually was, is irresponsible at best and dangerous at worst.

He can disagree with the decision all he likes, but he’d be wrong, however, his lack of professionalism is astounding for an individual in his position, what I also find incredible is that two strikers who played for so long at the highest level, never scored from an offside position or won a free-kick or penalty knowing that they had dived – funny that.
