There’s nothing better than having a striker in your team who is confident and believes that they are going to score goals every time they step onto the pitch.

There’s also more to it than that, opposition managers and teams trying to stop one player means that others are neglected and in Rangers case, that’s never a good idea.

As Alfredo Morelos scored his 100th goal for the club in a little over four years, the Colombian international will no doubt have had a weight lifted off his shoulders – maybe this was the 5-10kgs Craig Moore was talking about him needing to lose – and, hopefully, will now go one one of his devastating runs of form over a crucial period of fixtures that sees us play in three competitions including the league cup semi-final.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Ger, Alan Hutton, believes that El Bufalo’s winner against St Mirren could be the catalyst for a goal spree after finally hitting the 100 goal mark:

“I think it’s massive for him.

“It’s probably been weighing on his mind for the last few weeks as well.

“I’ve played alongside players that have been very close to it and it’s taken them a little while to get over that landmark.

“To finally do it, you’d like to think he can free himself up to play his natural game. He doesn’t have to think about stats and figures and things like that.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a massive boost of confidence for him. Hopefully, this will be a kind of turning point for him and he can go and get a few more.”

Fingers crossed that Hutton is right, Morelos has always been a confidence player and one that thrives on being the main man, it took a bit of getting used to him having a partner alongside him in Kemar Roofe but he now finally seems to understand that his role, in essence, hasn’t really changed.

The 25-year old spoke recently about how much he loves being at Rangers and his celebration on Sunday did little to suggest that he wants to leave, if anything, you won’t find a more passionate member of the squad and that includes those that are lifelong Gers fans.

We all know that if a decent offer comes in for him from the right club then he will be away and we need to appreciate and enjoy him whilst he is here – yes, he has his flaws but 100 goals and 45 assists in 199 games? Those are legend status numbers, let’s hope he gets the silverware this season that his stats deserve.
