It’s easy to forget that following the Old Firm win at Ibrox and the recent international break that we have a brand new, shiny player in the squad that we are yet to see in action.

Juninho Bacuna was signed with a few days left in the window and for all that we may not have spent millions on him, he is a player that should excite Rangers fans.

We need only to look at the career trajectory of Glen Kamara to see what Steven Gerrard and his coaching team can do with a midfielder that has raw potential, Ryan Jack is another player who is performing at levels that none of us thought he was capable of – imagine if he had been injury free all this time how good he could have become.

In Bacuna, we have a player that is just as comfortable in possession as Kamara, someone willing to take the ball under pressure and play his way out of trouble. His first thought is also to go forwards, a problem that we have seen in the past in the Rangers midfield against teams that like to sit in, too many passes getting played side to side.

Who scored the winner in Sunday's first Old Firm of 2021/22?

It might be a bit early for him to start against St Johnstone at the weekend, but his arrival does at least mean that Joe Aribo doesn’t have to play every game in midfield and can be used further forwards depending on the opposition, with John Lundstram also starting to settle in better having shown against Dunfermline, Ross County and Celtic what he is capable of, we now have a midfield that has depth, variety and enough options depending on whatever tactics Gerrard wants to employ.

With a genuine number eight in Bacuna, Gerrard now has somebody who he has wanted for a long time, and I, for one, can’t wait to see him in Light Blue.
