For all that the contract of Connor Goldson is of upmost importance, Glen Kamara’s is a close second.

There are other key players who’s contract expires in a couple of years time, however, they will already be on decent deals whereas the bargain signing from Dundee is unlikely to be on the sort of terms that reflect either his importance to the team or his potential transfer value – if we want to charge in the region of £20million for him, we need to pay him accordingly.

Speaking about interest this summer, the Finland international revealed that there were no concrete offers despite a few conversation, he also gave an update on talks over a new contract and, for Gers fans, it is positive news, as reported by The Scotsman:

“There have been talks and they have been on-going.

“We will see what happens.”

As with Goldson, there doesn’t seem to be any real rush or panic from the club to get the players tied up which suggests that it is just the finer details that need to be ironed out, the last thing we would want to do as we transition to a player trading model is start selling key assets below market value because we have been neglectful.

Who scored the winner in Sunday's first Old Firm of 2021/22?

Kamara has become a player who is undroppable in big games, he starts every Europa League fixture and every Old Firm, with Ryan Jack still on the sidelines, he has been even more important alongside Steven Davis in the Rangers engine room.

Hopefully a new deal can be announced soon for a player who, when he does leave, will make us significantly more than the £50,000 paid to sign him.
