For all the talk, there hasn’t been that much movement at the lower end of the transfer market, speculation surrounding key Rangers players has been just that.

But there is one player that seems to be spending more time on the back pages than any other, and after an outstanding European Championships, it’s little wonder that Glen Kamara is attracting interest from the Premier League with the latest in a long line of clubs said to be Newcastle United, according to a report by TEAMtalk.

“Newcastle United are showing an interest in Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara ahead of the transfer deadline, according to TEAMtalk sources.

“Rangers are keen to tie down the Finland star to a new long-term deal and remain hopeful of doing so, however, interest is emerging in the Premier League.

“The former Arsenal trainee has impressed hugely under Steven Gerrard and the Gunners have been one of the teams looking at him.

“West Ham, Leeds and Wolves have also been keeping close tabs on the 25-year-old, as have Newcastle.”

With two years left on his contract at Rangers, we shouldn’t be in any rush to sell Kamara, that he has reportedly agreed terms on a new contract already also suggests that we are in a good position should any real offers land on Ross Wilson’s desk.

It may be though that we sell the Finland international for less than his true market value but we also have to be realistic, there has been a dip in the market, pre-covid we might have been able to demand over £20million for Kamara but clubs have definitely been more frugal in the last twelve months – it doesn’t do any harm to have a host of clubs in the world’s richest league being linked with him though.

Interestingly though, Steve Bruce has claimed that Newcastle are unlikely to make any big signings this summer, you would think that rules them out of a move for the 25-year old and if you speak to any Toon fans, they’ll tell you the same thing, the chances of them spending money on players is about the same as us signing Odsonne Edouard on a pre-contract in January.
