The relationship between the Rangers board and fans isn’t at an all time high just now, the Sydney Cup farce, an apparent failure to invest properly in the playing squad and now, Stewart Robertson revealing that there won’t be any provision at Ibrox for fans unable to go to Seville to watch their team.

When five of the other six finalists across UEFA’s tournaments are hosting live events, there really isn’t that much of an excuse from the club, the “the staff are going to Spain” excuse given by the CEO hasn’t gone down well with the support.

Never one to miss an opportunity to have a go, Club 1872 have turned both barrels on Robertson with an explosive statement that pulls no punches in an email sent to members:

“The decision by Stewart Robertson not to hold a beam back of the Europa League final at Ibrox is extremely disappointing. We have written to him this evening to urge him to do a u-turn and open Ibrox to the tens of thousands of loyal supporters who will not be in Seville.

“This is a momentous and potentially historic game for Rangers and our supporters should be able to gather at our home stadium to experience the occasion together.

“We have offered to assist the club in any way we can to get Ibrox open for the game. We are also in dialogue with various third parties to assist the club and/or provide an alternative venue for supporters.

“We cannot guarantee anything due to the short notice of this decision, but we are exploring all options and will make every effort to ensure non travelling supporters are accommodated.”

The fans organisation can’t really lose on this one. If they manage to get the club to change tact then everyone is happy, likewise if they manage to organise something themselves, the club would look bad and they’d come out smelling of roses.

Whether or not you agree with what they have done in the past, they are right on this. There needs to be something, whoever organises it is irrelevant. Hopefully, we’ll get greater clarity over the next 24 hours and something can be announced one way or the other for fans to have to make their own plans of what could an an historical night really isn’t good enough.
