Alfredo Morelos appears to be edging ever closer to the exit at Ibrox and one legendary Rangers star believes that it should happen sooner, rather than later.

Brian Laudrup, writing in The Daily Mail, has backed Steven Gerrard in his stance over the Colombian international after dropping him for the win against Kilmarnock at the weekend.

So what has Laudrup said?

When asked to reflect on the current transfer saga attracting the most attention on the back pages of the Scottish papers, he said:

‘The quicker he leaves, the better I think it will be for Rangers Football Club.

“It’s sad because he has been a very good striker, especially in Europe. That’s why a club like Lille have been prepared to pay a lot of money for him. But it’s a shame that it now looks as though he will be leaving through the back door rather than the front door.

“Morelos has come out so often and explained that he wants to play in one of the bigger leagues. That’s fine if you are performing. Steven Gerrard would look at it and decide he could live with it.

“But if he is not producing to expectations then he will become a nuisance in the team. Players around him will become annoyed. They will be thinking: ‘Why is he here if he doesn’t want to be here?’

“For me, offloading him would be the best option for him, for the club and everyone else. It has to be done as quickly as possible, I think.”

So is Laudrup correct?

Gerrard put a lot of trust in to Morelos last season and although his discipline was greatly improved and his form in the run up to Christmas was as good as any that Rangers fans have seen – he was still able to lead his side to silverware.

Laudrup is right, Morelos has never been shy in voicing his opinion on where he wants to go next, but the club has also always been honest with him in terms of how much they want for him before he will be allowed to leave.

Although he has had a decent start to the season, he clearly isn’t itself and the Gers gaffer has obviously seen a change in training too, with replacements already secured, it is absolutely the time to sell the Colombian international – if, of course, the price is right.
