Ibrox exit near as Morelos “formally requests” that Rangers accept £18m bid from Lille

|

The Alfredo Morelos transfer saga appears to be edging closer to completion if reports of an improved bid of over £18million from Lille are accurate.

Pipe Sierra is a journalist for WinSportsTV, a channel that Morelos has frequently been interviewed on throughout his time with Rangers including this summer when news of the bid from Lille first broke, and he claims that El Bufalo has “formally asked” for the Ligue 1 side’s bid of €20m (£18m) to be accepted.

The Colombian international has, reportedly, already agreed personal terms and with the two sides not far apart in terms of a transfer fee – a bid of over £16m was recently rejected and Rangers are looking for £20m – it won’t take much for the finer details to be ironed out.

After being dropped from the squad altogether on Saturday it would appear that his time in Light Blue is fast coming to an end and it would be a shame if a player who provided so many memorable moments leaves through the back door.

Morelos almost single handedly dragged Rangers into the last 32 of the Europa League with a series of stunning goals against quality opposition and it will be a long time before we see another player hit 14 goals in a single continental campaign including breaking a UEFA record in the process.

Appreciated by many outside of Scottish football but shamefully harassed by many within, his time in Glasgow has never been a quiet one and if he hadn’t been refereed to a different standard or written about as if he was a convicted criminal – like those across the city in green and white – he might not have been in such a hurry to leave.
