Alfredo Morelos is – on a daily basis – edging closer to the exit at Ibrox and Rangers News has claimed that reports in Spain name Friday as the day by which the Colombian international’s proposed move to Lille could be completed.

The figure that has been banded about has been €20million (£18m) with news outlets in El Bufalo’s homeland calming that the fee has all but been agreed.

The news that Porto have also entered the running will be music to Ross Wilson’s ears as he looks to negotiate a record breaking deal for the striker who has sat out the last games for Steven Gerrard’s side.

His sale this time last season would have be unimaginable, such was his importance to the team, but with the arrival of Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, and Jermain Defoe close to a return to fitness, his departure presents an opportunity rather than a threat to Rangers chances of staying in top spot in the Premiership.

The “dead wood” has been trimmed off the wage bill with Jordan Jones the only other player that has been told he is free to leave, selling Morelos for the fee quoted not only covers the cost of the players that have been bought, but he will also free up a significant chunk off the wage bill.

Will Morelos be sold before the end of the international break?

Gerrard won’t be given the whole fee to spend but there will be more than enough left to potentially splash out on another striker and a midfielder.

Morelos has more than repaid his transfer fee and wages in his time at the club, and in his departure, he could yet provide the final pieces of the jigsaw needed to see Rangers secure what would arguably be the most celebrated title in our long and illustrious history.
