Rangers fans enjoyed a day reminiscent of those under Dick Advocaat when Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten were announced as new players for the Ibrox side this week, two multi-million pound deals in one day seemed to be a thing of the past and details for one of them shows the level of backing that Steven Gerrard is receiving from the board.

A report in Football Insider claims that the transfer of Roofe from Anderlecht will cost the Light Blues in excess of £10million over the length of his four-year contract with a £4.5m transfer fee and £20,000 a week in wages.

It was no secret that Gerrard has been an admirer of Roofe for some time and he had been a potential target last season when it looked as though Rangers would be priced out of a move for Ryan Kent, having both players in the same line-up is now an exciting prospect for Gers fans going into the new season.

The 27-year old forward cost Anderlecht £7m last summer so although it looks a lot of money on paper, if Ross Wilson has managed to negotiate a fee in the region of £4.5m for a player approaching their peak it is another example of the Scot’s ability to haggle and get the best possible deal for Rangers.

There is obviously the rumoured departure of Alfredo Morelos that could be getting used to foot the bill for the arrival of both Roofe and Cedric Itten and the club appear to have taken the approach of replacing him with two players knowing that finding one player capable of 29 goals and 10 assists in three-quarters of a season just wasn’t going to be possible.

The Ibrox club appear to be getting things right off the pitch, it is now up to Gerrard and the players to finally deliver on it and repay the faith of both the board and the fans that have stuck by their side through thick and thin with unquestionable loyalty.
