The arrival of Ross Wilson as Sporting Director has seen a noticeable difference in the way in which Rangers conduct their business in the transfer market, gone are the days of leaks and speculation with deals being done without as much of a hint in the Scottish media.

There are also signs that we finally seem to have a cohesive strategy, and a specialist negotiator capable of getting the best deal for the club, the Alfredo Morelos “saga” demonstrating that we will no longer be bullied over valuations.

Since he made the move from the Premier League, Wilson has secured fees for the likes of Eros Grezda and Matt Polster when previously they would have been given a pay-off, similarly, there has also been  sell-on clauses inserted into deals which previous incumbents of the role seemed incapable of achieving.

The recent departures of Ross McCrorie and Jamie Murphy has also taught us something, the club’s transfer business is in safe hands. Some fans might not like the chosen destination for both players but there is a clear method to the moves.

The initial deals feature a 12-month loan meaning that neither will be able to play against Rangers this season, however, Hibs and Aberdeen have been made stronger by the arrival of the two players – the ultimate goal being that they contribute to taking points off of Celtic.

The idea of helping clubs that have previously looked to put us down may be a bitter pill to swallow for some but the Scottish market remains an important one for Rangers and the recent olive branches that appear to have been offered could pay dividends in the long run.

Would Rangers have won the league if Ross Wilson arrived before Mark Allen?

Yes

No

No

Additionally, by offloading players that are deemed not good enough to make an impact in the first-team – whilst cutting the wage bill – Wilson has managed to hit several birds with the one stone, freeing up wages for potential new arrivals is also sure to excite those of a Light Blue persuasion with new faces expected over the coming days, if only the former Southampton man had arrived before Pedro Caixinha was appointed, how different things could have been.
