Rangers interest in £5.5m rated striker is “very real” according to French sources

|

Rangers appear to be edging closer to adding extra numbers to their attack with the news that a move for £5.5million rated Josh Maja of Bordeaux is very much on the cards.

Sport Witness reported that French football journalist, Hanif Berkane, claims that Steven Gerrard’s interest in the former Sunderland striker is there, but any move depends on Lille signing Alfredo Morelos:

“For Maja, it’s very real. I think that if Lille have made official the transfer of Morelos, the offer will quickly arrive on Bordeaux’s desk. For [Yacine] Adli, it’s different. Bordeaux will hesitate selling those two players. They’re also awaiting the arrival of Alain Roche (their new director of football). I think that if one of the two has to leave, it’ll be Maja.”

Berkane – who had originally spoken to WebGirondins – is sure to have sparked excitement in the Gers fanbase as they look forward to seeing the much needed extra firepower that could be the difference between first and second place in the Scottish Premiership title race.

In what season did Steven Gerrard make his Liverpool debut?

Maja isn’t the only name on Gerrard’s shopping list and both Mirko Maric and Ivan Toney remain heavily linked with moves to Ibrox as well as Bongani Zungu’s transfer from Amiens close to completion.

The board appear to be backing the Rangers manager in what is one of the most eagerly anticipated seasons in the club’s history and meeting his demands of quality over quantity as the boss looks to fine tune his first XI into a unit capable of reaching a level of consistency that has so far been elusive over a whole season.
