A mix of youth and experience was deployed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst as Rangers defeated Queen’s Park 3-2 in the final warm up game ahead of the competitive season.

Zak Lovelace took full advantage of the run out in front of the first team coaches, grabbing a brace as Rangers came from behind to beat their Championship opponents.

The Spiders couldn’t hold on to a two goal lead, whilst Rangers secured their first goal in response thanks to an OG. A penalty was also conceded by the visitors but Steven Davis’ effort was saved by the ‘keeper.

As predicted by VitalRangers last night, the starting line-up for the Gers consisted mainly of those players on the bench yesterday against Spurs, whilst a few other B team players were presented with a chance.

A full report was provided by Rangers official website in the last hour.

The squad involved against Owen Coyle’s team was as follows:

McCrorie – Devine, Davies (Katic, 46), Sands (Zukowski, 65), King – Jack, Davis, Arfield – Wright (McCann, 65), Fashion Jnr, Tillman (Lovelace, 65).

Subs not used – K Wright, Kelly, Middleton, Fraser, McCausland.

Impact

With just over 25 minutes on the pitch, 16-year old Zak Lovelace showed GvB and the senior pros what he is all about as well as underlining his quality. You don’t get to be involved in Millwall’s English Championship squad at such a tender age without having quality, but more than that, his physique and strength belies his youth.

David McCallum’s B team is the base for Lovelace for now but if he keeps on impressing and evolving, it won’t be long before he spends more time with the first team squad.

The extra minutes in the legs would have been a useful exercise for those not involved yesterday at Ibrox, with the big kick off at Livingston just six days away.

At the other end of the scale, the likes of Stephen Kelly, Glenn Middleton, Niko Katic and Jack Simpson should be looking toward the exit with outward moves very likely over the next couple of weeks.
