Tom Lawrence has arrived in Portugal to meet up with the Rangers squad following the completion of his move to the club.

The former Derby captain will now be in contention to make an appearance against Sunderland in the Algarve when Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team play their first friendly of pre-season, in front of fans on Saturday evening.

28-year old Lawrence will be a very interesting acquisition, who will be keen for further stability after enjoying arguably the best spell of his career at Derby, under Wayne Rooney, but following the much-publicised issues at Pride Park in recent times, the Rams received points deductions which ultimately cost them relegation to League 1.

That would then signal the end for Man United legend Rooney, as well as Wrexham-born Lawrence amongst others.

The Welsh international was quoted upon completion of his signature at Ibrox, ā€œI am delighted to have joined Rangers and Iā€™m excited to get started.”

“The club is known worldwide for its history, successes and fan base and I look forward to being part of that going forward and getting to play in front of the supporters at Ibrox.”

He will bring goals to the squad and replace some of the versatility lost with the outgoing Joe Aribo.

Whether playing on either wing, as an advanced midfielder or even as a ‘false nine’, Tom Lawrence is more than capable of making an impact in the Scottish Premiership and is no doubt enthused by the prospects of European football with Rangers just four games away from the glamour of the Champions League or at least, another return to the Europa League.

He will be assessed by the coaches tomorrow, after meeting his new manager and teammates, hours prior to the 8pm kick-off at the Municipal Stadium in Albufeira.
