The latest transfer speculation has linked Rangers with an interest in Angers’ 25-year old attacking midfielder Angelo Fulgini.

Capped three times by France at U21 level, the player has been tracked by clubs across Europe, with a January move to Borussia Mönchengladbach said to have collapsed at the last minute. There have also been recent links to the Premier League.

As stated below by Nabil Djellit, Rangers would be pushing the limits of their transfer budget to make this move happen with Angers said to be holding out for just under £6million (€7mil) given that the Ivory Coast born attacker is now in the final 12 months of his current contract.

He is rated at £10.8 million by Transfermarkt, following the 21/22 campaign when he registered five goals and four assists in 36 appearances.

“On the start, Angelo Fulgini has an offer from Rangers. The midfielder is also of interest to Mainz. The Bundesliga side could more easily approach SCO expectations. The L1 club is hoping for €7M to buy out the player’s last year of contract. #Mercato “

If Rangers are seriously interested in Angelo Fulgini, it would be an ambitious target in terms of the cost of the player as well as the clubs in Top 5 leagues who would also be tracking him.

It would be a statement of intent to land a highly rated 25-year old from Ligue 1 though there would be some concerns regarding the re-sale viability, as much as he would still have plenty of time to contribute and move on from Glasgow.

GFFN surveyed the possible next option for the former Valenciennes man, with several clubs discussed:

“Fulgini is a neat, consistent, technical midfielder but, based on the evidence at Angers, he lacks the outright vision and quality to play as a creative attacking fulcrum at a higher level. Links with Burnley, this current incarnation of ‘Gladbach, Feyenoord and PSV are all good fits as a result.”

“A move to Sevilla or an upper mid-table Premier League team, such as Newcastle, Wolves, Leicester or West Ham, could be risky for those clubs, depending on where they see the former Valenciennes man fitting into their squads.”

An exciting prospect, but an unlikely shot it would seem.
