With Joe Aribo said to be close to sealing a switch for Southampton, it just remains to be seen when his move will be confirmed.

At this stage, whilst it would be a surprise, there may yet be a late attempt from another club to derail the move to the St. Mary’s stadium but it appears that the Nigerian star’s future will lie in Hampshire with the Saints.

It is widely accepted that a parting on ways after three years of Aribo and Rangers, has been on the cards. At present, with less than 12 months remaining on the 4-year contract he penned in 2019 to join up with Steven Gerrard, it makes a lot of sense for both parties to shake hands and move on.

It has been a mutually beneficial relationship and that continues with the parting gift for Rangers in terms of profit on the initial outlay to secure the player from Charlton, three years ago.

More on this, in greater detail, has been detailed by Joshua Barrie of the Rangers Review:

“Aribo can return to England having developed considerably. In 2019 he was playing League 1 football and is now an established international footballer with significant experience in European competition.”

“Aribo will be remembered fondly. A majestically skilful player, capable of breath-taking first touches, infallible close control and technical excellence. He’s played every role in midfield, filled in at left-back and lead the line in a European final.”

Winner

In addition to the above attributes and recognition that the 25-year old has gained at Ibrox, he has also picked up two winners medals from the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup.

He has played under the intense pressure that comes as standard at Ibrox and at times, he has more than flourished due to his significant ability.

Now for Joe Aribo, the challenge will be to add greater consistency and continued impact to his game – if he does this, he can progress even further under the bright lights and glamour of the Premier League.
