Frank Lampard will not be the next manager of Norwich City, opening the door to potential talks with Rangers directors over a move to Ibrox.

The news has emerged this afternoon that Lampard will not go further in the process for the Canaries who have also spoken to departed Aston Villa boss Dean Smith in what is something of a managerial merry-go-round.

With reports of Rangers chiefs meeting Giovanni van Bronckhorst in London tomorrow, why not also have a conversation with Lampard, there is nothing at all to lose and he is said to be interested.

Harry Rednapp, Frank’s uncle, also spoke today of the attraction of a move to Glasgow to boost the Chelsea legend’s managerial career, in a similar path to the one taken by Steven Gerrard.

As reported by the Glasgow Times, Redknapp was asked if the chance had gone for his nephew to make the journey north, to which he provided a firm response:

“No, I wouldn’t have thought so – I would have thought he’ll want to get his career back going again.”

“And maybe Stevie (Gerrard) has gone and set his on the right track by going to Rangers.”

“So going to Scotland and going to Glasgow Rangers wouldn’t be a backwards step. It would be a fantastic job for him.”

Contender

Lampard has significant experience from his time in charge of Derby and Chelsea, adding to his pedigree and status as a player to put him in contention for the job at Ibrox, why not?

Yes, there will be doubts and he is not as fancied as the likes of GvB but things could change and Lampard would appear keen to have a discussion with Rangers, if even on a preliminary basis.

Given his availability, the situation means that some form of contact is likely with further info on Rangers process likely to emerge over the weekend.
