It really does feel like Rangers are back now.

Champions League qualifiers on the horizon, no early trips to Gibraltar or Luxembourg and signing respected Premier League players who were wanted by other teams in England’s top flight.

John Lundstram was announced earlier this week and former Ger, Allan Hutton, reckons that it is a great deal to get someone so highly rated, at the peak of his powers, to head to Scottish football, as reported by Football Insider:

“I think it’s massive. Just look at his experience in the last couple of seasons.

“We know last season didn’t go to plan for him or the team in general but he’s still got that experience of playing in the Premier League. Not only that but the Championship as well.

“He’s what, 27? He is coming into his prime years if you want. I think to get someone from the Premier League to come up to Scotland is massive anyway, No matter how you look at it.

“To get someone in their prime I think is special. It just shows you the kind of manager Steven Gerrard is that he can attract these guys up north.

“I think it is a real coup for Rangers.”

Hutton is right, for all that you believe that Champions League football and the draw of Steven Gerrard will be enough to persuade someone to turn down clubs in the Premier League to sign for Rangers, you never quite fully believe that it will happen.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

It was different with the likes of Scott Arfield, Steven Davis and Jermain Defoe, given the stage of their respective careers that they were at but Lundstram really is going to be spending his best years with us, under contract, he’s a £10million player, easily, and it’s just another indicator that we are back and have plans to stay at the top for a long time to come.
