Rangers have announced the signing of John Lundstram and with him, yet another player with Premier League experience added to the ranks of Steven Gerrard’s star-studded squad.

It’s a move that has been praised throughout the media and former Premier League striker, Noel Whelan, is the latest in a long line to back the 27-year old to be a hit at Ibrox, as told to Football Insider:

“On a free transfer you’re not putting anything at risk. What you are getting is a player who can be absolutely massive for Rangers next season.

“He didn’t sign a new contract at Sheffield United but they still played him which shows how important he was for them.

“He’s a player that’s very aggressive in that midfield with a good engine. He also loves to get forward and he’s a leader out there.

“He can enhance Rangers’ squad in a really positive way. That’s all you’re looking to do when you have been rebuilding like Rangers have.

“It’s huge. Celtic will be looking across at them and thinking ‘should we have gone for him?’.”

Whelan is correct. Players of Lundstram’s pedigree don’t grow on trees and certainly aren’t available on free transfers that often, that he chose Rangers ahead of several Premier League sides says it all about where we are as a team just now and the pull that Steven Gerrard has as a manager.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

His ability will obviously be a plus but his physicality will be a huge asset, especially when the weather turns – if he can do it on a cold Tuesday night in Sheffield, he can do it in Dundee.
