The contract saga of Connor Goldson has yet to be resolved one way or the other, there has been nothing official about him leaving and Ross Wilson is “relaxed” about the whole situation and yet our vice-captain could be about to leave for nothing.

The problem with Goldson potentially waiting to see if Rangers qualify for the Champions League before making his decision is that we can’t afford to stand still and wait for him.

Speaking to Football Insider, Alan Hutton reckons that this decision could backfire on Goldson if Rangers bring in reinforcements in January:

”To run down your contract and hopefully get a bigger club in the Premier League, it might not happen

“So you’re taking a massive gamble and Rangers won’t stand still. They’ll go ahead and look to their targets who they want to bring in if Connor Goldson isn’t willing to sign a contract.

“I think from his side it is a big risk. Rangers could move on. I understand he’s the vice-captain. He probably wants a decent contract.

“Obviously Rangers feel they’ve offered that. He’s sat on the fence at the moment and it’s a dangerous game to play.”

Rangers have been linked with John Souttar and Danilho Doekhi and stand a good chance of getting both of them, either on a pre-contract, or a permanent deal.

From which country does Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist come from?

Should we manage to get the pair over the line it doesn’t mean that our sporting director will stop trying to persuade Goldson to extend his stay, if anything, our defensive unit could be even stronger – the vice-captain wanted to see progress, a successful transfer window might be enough for him to put pen to paper.
