Approaching the halfway stage of the transfer window I would have expected one or two more players to have moved on by now, instead, we have seen players that have been out on loan return to the squad.

One “non-contributor” who could be set to leave is Jack Simpson with Middlesbrough said to be interested in the out of favour centre-half.

The 25-year old has struggled for game time this season and when he has played – even against Dunfermline – he has look far from assured.

Simpson now finds himself behind every senior centre-half and it would be a surprise if Leon King hasn’t been promoted ahead of him now that he is a member of the first team squad and has signed a new deal.

From which country does Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist come from?

Hopefully Ross Wilson can negotiate a deal that is good for the player but also earns us a few pounds in the process, Simpson has a decent pedigree in England and it’s the right time to move him on given how little he is going to play under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, after all, both Calvin Bassey and James Tavernier were picked in the middle ahead of him.

He was only ever signed as a backup but there is still a level of expectation when a player pulls on a Light Blue shirt, academy players will be given a bit of leeway but ones that have experience in the Premier League will be judged to a different standard, a standard Simpson has failed to live up to.
