George Edmundson has had an eventful couple of years as a Rangers player and just as you think his time could be coming to an end at the club he supported as a boy, it appears as if he is going to be given a second chance.

His well publicised indiscretion last season, coupled with a seven game ban, did little to enamour him to Steven Gerrard in such an important campaign – that he was then sent to Derby County on loan suggested that he would be lucky to see another appearance in Light Blue.

However, a recent report claimed that the manager wants to see him fight for his place and that Rangers have rejected multiple bids for the 23-year old, something that former Ger, Alan Hutton, feels could be “huge” for the centre-half, as told to Football Insider:

“It looks like he’s going to be given another opportunity. I think the loan move was perfect for him.

“Get away, get out the spotlight after everything that happened and then concentrate on playing. He’s done well. There’s obviously been a lot of clubs, a lot of interest, through the hard work that he’s put in.

“Obviously Gerrard and the backroom staff would have been monitoring that, his progress down south. They may feel he’s ready to come back and try and fight for a spot at Rangers.

“This is a huge pre-season for him. I think he’ll want to do his best for Rangers and try and break into the team. It’s up to him now.

“His hard work got him another opportunity to shine. Gerrard’s given him that opportunity so it’s up to him.”

I’m still not entirely convinced that he has a future at Ibrox, we already have three senior central defenders with Jack Simpson, Niko Katic and Edmundson in supporting roles, six simply doesn’t go into two.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

Simpson is just in the door and Katic will probably go out on loan to get much needed game time, his recovery won’t be complete getting the odd game in the cups against lesser opposition, leaving Edmundson as the odd one out – he is a talented player and clearly has time on his hands for the position he plays, I just can’t see him getting it at Ibrox.
