Rangers search for a new striker has taken another twist with the news that we might be looking for a favour from our former manager, Steven Gerrard, at Aston Villa.

With Mateo Cassierra likely to be too expensive, unless there is a big money departure, we have – reportedly – turned our attentions down south and to Cameron Archer, the England youth international who excelled on loan at Preston in the second half of last season.

Contracted until 2025 and valued on Transfermarkt at £5.4million, it would seem that a permanent move is out of the question, however, with 20 goals and five assists in 33 games across all competitions last year, he has shown early promise when it comes to finding the back of the net, that he was involved in three Premier League games also suggests that he is highly thought of at Villa.

As already discussed, the third choice or back-up striker role is not an easy one to fill or recruit for, one option is a player like Jermain Defoe who has a proven track record and will appreciate that they won’t be able to play every week, but another is budding youngsters from “better” leagues who don’t yet have the experience to be thrown in at the deepend.

There is an argument that we shouldn’t be developing other clubs’ players but if we can attract better than what we already have, without breaking the bank then, in some cases, it is an option that should be considered – as we saw with Cedric Itten, what looks good on paper doesn’t always become a reality.

I’m not even sure that makes sense but i take it you mean Bassey isn’t worth what we are asking for him, thats not how football works im afraid. Bassey is better than Patteron and he went for £12m + £4m add ons, that’s how football works.
