Loan Ranger George Edmundson has been tipped to make a permanent move to Derby County, with a ‘brilliant’ fee set to be received.

That is the verdict of former Ibrox full-back Alan Hutton, speaking to Football Insider.

With Rangers being linked to further incoming central defenders such as Danilho Doekhi and Joseph Okumu as well as Jack Simpson vying for a place and Niko Katic on the comeback trail, the future propects for Edmundson in Glasgow look bleak.

Having made a decent impression on loan at Derby, there is a strong chance that Wayne Rooney will aim to secure a permanent switch for the player – a sentiment that Hutton agreed with:

“Edmundson, it’s just not worked out,” he said.

“Obviously with the Covid issues and then going out on loan, I mean I don’t even think he’s played much at Derby.”

“I’m not sure of the stats, has he played about eight games?”

“If they could get £1million for him, brilliant.”

Courage

Just this week, the former Oldham stopper has been praised by his current manager for his commitment, returning ahead of schedule following a recent hernia setback.

Rooney said: “George had been in the treatment room this week and insisted he was ready to go on the bench if we needed him for the last 10 minutes.”

“When a player wants to play, and given where we are in the table, wants to show that courage to play, I had no issue in putting him on the bench.”

“He played longer than we expected, but he has come through really well and he will be available for Saturday.”

George Edmundson has the attributes for the English Championship, with plenty of potential still to be fulfilled.

The situation at both clubs on the pitch would indicate a stay in the east Midlands is much more probable than a return to Ibrox in the close season.
