Billy Gilmour is set for the exit at Chelsea with a decision on his next club said to be very close.

The 21-year old has effectively been frozen out by Thomas Tuchel, with two seasons remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge.

With recent speculation again suggesting a return to Ibrox could be beneficial for both player and club, it is one of those that will continue to be spoke about until there is certainty on where Gilmour will be playing his football.

That could be confirmed imminently with a loan deal at least expected to happen, but there has been talk of a permanent departure with fellow Premier League clubs said to be at the front of the queue to take him away from west London.

A report from the Daily Express included:

‘Brighton are understood to be ready to make their move for Scotland star Billy Gilmour – and it could be a £10m permanent deal.’

‘The Seagulls have already made a loan deal for Chelsea centre back Levi Colwill that was inter-linked to the sale of full back Marc Cucurella to Stamford Bridge and under Premier League rules they are not allowed to have two players in temporary transfers from the same club.’

‘But they could be gazumped by Everton. Chelsea are determined to land England under-21 star Anthony Gordon from the Toffees and have had a £40million bid rejected. Now it’s being reported they could use Gilmour to sweeten the deal.’

Fit

Playing under Graham Potter at Brighton would tick a lot of boxes for Gilmour, especially in the system that they are impressing in, that is a move that you could see happening.

The lure of former boss Lampard at Everton will be a factor, but the player should think twice about the situation that the blue half of Liverpool find themselves in – one that they aren’t likely to be escaping any time soon. A similar miserable scenario played out last season at Norwich and that is not one that the Rangers trainee will want to repeat.

Any chance of a move back home to Scotland to play for Giovanni van Bronckhorst? That would appear quite unlikely at this stage, with Rangers already having John Lundstram leading the options in the middle with a supporting cast of a few. The priority for Gio over the next few days will far more likely be in other positions.

The next move for Billy Gilmour is a crucial one, hopefully it proves to be a successful one.
