Leon King’s development continues at a steady pace as the teenage defender works toward his crowning moment.

The 18-year old was given the full second half at Ibrox, coming on for James Sands who was fortunate not to see red having already been booked (wrongly) by Don Robertson.

It is fair to say that the teenage defender will have harder tests to come than what he faced against the Staggies but the best thing that can be said is that he didn’t look out of place.

Calm, assured, strong and mobile, already Leon King has a great chance in football and if he can propel his development further over the next couple of seasons, he will surely be in contention to secure his status as a first team player at Rangers.

He has benefited directly from Leon Balogun’s departure and due to the continued absence of Ben Davies and John Souttar, his pathway to the first team has never been clearer.

The next chance for King is likely to come in League Cup action against Queen of the South on Tuesday and expect him to pick up from where he left off last weekend, as he told Rangers TV of his satisfaction, post-match:

“It’s always great, being a young player and getting the nod to go and play in front of the fans at Ibrox. It’s still a surreal moment for me, obviously being a boyhood fan of the club so it’s amazing.”

“It’s amazing. I’ve got all these top-class players to learn off day in, day out. If I get my chance I’m just there to grasp it with both hands.”
