And so it begins – round two for Rangers and SPFL

And so it begins.

No sooner had Nicola Sturgeon and her pals decided that 500 is the safest number of people who can be vaccinated, test negative and attend football matches than we were starting to hear reports that a certain club in the SPFL was entertaining the idea of bringing the winter break forward.

No prizes for guessing who.

Now aside from the fact that 50,000 fans who are vaccinated and can prove they are negative for Covid-19 is just as safe as 500, moving the break makes absolutely zero sense – unless you have a big derby game coming up, have a lengthy injury list and want all your fans there of course.

Rangers next three fixtures should have been St Mirren at home, then away trips to Pittodrie and Parkhead, but we all know how that has worked out, every club will look after their own interests but it’s just another example of the SPFL being rudderless.

There was an obvious advantage to ourselves in that – if the games went ahead – two of our hardest away games wouldn’t be anywhere near as hostile but moving the winter break achieves nothing.

We don’t know what the weather will be like in January or what havoc the coronavirus will still be wrecking on our lives, whilst the going is relatively good and case numbers are low in players, games should be played to avoid a fixture pile-up further down the line.

The one thing we don’t want is for the SFA or SPFL to be trusted to make a decision that benefits everyone, we’ve all seen how that panned out in the past.

The alternative is just to give up and award us the league title, that’s how this is supposed to work isn’t it?

Its time to stop simply disagreeing with everyone all the time. This one is a no brained protect fans including our own. We are Rangers! We are bigger than petty squabbling and petulance..
