There can be times when English pundits are asked to reflect on Scottish football and it’s obvious that they haven’t got a clue what they are speaking about, Danny Mills claiming that Alfredo Morelos being sold for £9million is one example that springs to mind.
One opinion that we can all agree on though is that Connor Goldson not only deserves to be given a new contract but that it should now be Ross Wilson’s priority job, getting him signed up onto an extended deal, something that Gabby Agbolahor feels is a no brainer, as told to Football Insider:
“Yes, he deserves it.
“He’s been outstanding, a colossus at the back. Definitely, he should be rewarded.
“He’s a leader, the captain when James Tavernier is not playing.
“So he should be given a new contract, he deserves it.”
It’s not exactly ground breaking or particularly insightful punditry from the former Villa man but he’s correct, Goldson has been immense since signing for Rangers, barely missing a game and you can count on one hand the mistakes that he has made.
With a solid partner alongside him in the shape of Filip Helander or Leon Balogun he has really come into his own, showing the leadership and organisational skills that drove us to the league title – it’s easy to see why he is one of Steven Gerrard’s trusted lieutenants.
We don’t need any distractions ahead of what is going to be a huge run of fixtures, give him what he wants, he’s worth it.
