Reported £9million deal for wanted Rangers star is embarrassing, get real!

Calvin Bassey to the Premier League? Given his progress and ability, a transfer cant be ruled out this Summer with several clubs interested.

If any move comes to fruition, it will be for serious money and an agreement that would almost certainly smash the deal done with Everton for the services of Nathan Patterson.

However, no derisory bids will be entertained nor will Rangers be accepting anything less than the going rate, despite this report that appeared online yesterday.

Bassey has starred in the run to the EL Final, he is contracted for another two years and Rangers recently sold Patterson to Everton for around £12million.

In addition to this, he would be a home grown player for English clubs as well as a Nigeria international. The man mountain, mentality-monster is going places.

Hopefully that can be at Ibrox, but if not the fee of any transfer will reflect his current growth and significant further potential.

VitalRangers Gavin Kelly wrote earlier today on the potential of a £20mil plus record to follow:

“The benchmark has been set with Nathan Patterson, a fee that could rise to £16m, Bassey is already more mature and more experienced, he’s also more important to the team and the manager. With two years still to run on his contract we are also well protected in terms of his value depreciating.”

Asset

With two years remaining on his current deal, Rangers can be fairly relaxed just now. If a major club want him, West Ham, Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund are just three of those to be mentioned so far, then they will need to make a serious offer to reflect the reality of the situation.

In the meantime, an improved contract should be put to Bassey and his representatives to further protect the club’s asset but much of that would depend on the south London born player’s intentions.

It provides yet another sub-plot in what will be an action packed close season at Ibrox.
