The additions of Fashion Sakala and John Lundstram have the Rangers squad looking as strong as it has done since Dick Advocaat’s time in charge, no longer just a decent starting XI, but strength in depth all over the park.

That the names missing from the first pre-season friendly against Partick Thistle included ten internationals says it all about the quality that Steven Gerrard now has at his disposal.

The gaffer has already confirmed that there will not be the usual number of arrivals and it now looks as though we are pretty much done with any permanent deals – unless, of course, we see acceptable bids coming in for our own players.

Ross Wilson has always been proactive in his role as sporting director though so he might look at the loan market to cover key positions, just in case.

One such player is Harry Wilson, the 24-year old Wales international currently at Liverpool but is miles out of Jurgen Klop’s first-team picture, a player we have been linked with in the past given the obvious connections between the two clubs.

How many players do Rangers have at the Euros this summer?

With a price tag for a permanent deal reportedly close to £20million, there are few clubs willing to go this high for someone who has spent most of his last five years in the Championship, however, another loan deal seems to be his best prospect of getting regular game time with Swansea City said to be joining Cardiff City in the race for his signature.

Wilson has shown what he can do at that level though so a change of scenery, Champions League football, the opportunity to play in front of 50,000 fans every week and for a Liverpool legend, could be enough to persuade him to head up the M6.

Gerrard spoke about “quality not quantity” and Wilson has the former in abundance.
