When Steven Gerrard first arrived at Ibrox, almost three years to the day, the immediate reaction was to link Rangers with every youth player going at Liverpool, ones that he had worked with in his previous role in particular.

One of those was Harry Wilson, fresh off a stunning hat-trick for Cardiff City where has been on loan from the gaffer’s old club, who has since revealed that he is looking for a fresh start if he isn’t going to be part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans next season.

Vital Rangers has suggested in the past that he would be perfect for how we play but that the price tag could be an issue given that he has previously been valued at upwards of £20million, however, Kevin Phillips, speaking to Football Insider, believes that a deal could be done for the Wales international:

“Yeah, definitely.

“He’s got a lot of quality, he knows Gerrard, he’s an exciting young talent.

“Wilson’s not going to cost fortunes and fortunes and he’ll shine up there at Rangers.

“He’s an exciting attacking player and he’s one that Stevie can nurture and get more out of.

“Again, I’m not criticising the league up there but with his quality he can definitely shine, it’s just where Stevie would play him.”

Hopefully, Gerrard can use his local hero discount card once again to give Ross Wilson a bit of leeway in any potential negotiations. The 24-year old, with seven goals and 12 assists, has had a decent, if unspectacular season, but we have seen with Ryan Kent just how much a player can improve under this coaching team.

If the fee is right, I’m pretty sure that Wilson will have had enough of playing in the Championship or for relegation threatened Premier League teams, loan spells at Crewe Alexandra, Hull City, Derby County and Bournemouth are hardly comparable with the opportunity to play in the Champions League and work with one of Liverpool and England’s finest, hopefully Phillips is correct and that the price, is right.
