Youth success at Rangers can only mean positive things for Gerrard’s side in the future – opinion

|

There has been a lot of news circulating the Rangers Youth team over the last few weeks. The young Gers have made great progress in cup competitions in recent weeks. But last weekend’s Old Firm victory was the icing on the cake of a great run of form (Rangers.com).

The team thrashed their Glasgow rivals 5-0 in a straight forward victory. Goals from Leon King, Nathan Young-Coombes, Ross McCausland, Kai Kennedy and Ciaran Dickson contributed to the monumental scoreline. But this result means more than just temporary success at the youth level. It showcases a foundation for the future at Rangers Football Club.

The first-team are flying, sure, but the results of Steven Gerrard’s team aren’t necessarily the most exciting thing about Rangers at the moment. Currently, the first team are level on points with Celtic at the top of the table, just one goal away from their rivals (Sky Sports). We are in the finals of the Scottish League Cup with them and are both set to progress our of our groups in the UEFA Europa League (UEFA). Things are great, but the great times are only just beginning.

As it stands, Rangers are on par with Celtic. As nice as it would be to suggest we are better, Steven Gerrard hasn’t done enough to pull away from the rest of Scottish football just yet. It’s once again a two-horse race.

But the youth team’s results paint a different picture for the future. It suggests that assuming we make the right improvements to the squad in future transfer windows, Rangers could become a powerhouse in Scottish football. That should excite Rangers fans. But what do you think? Are you buzzing for the next generation, or are you more excited about the prospects of competing right now?

Are you more excited about the first team or youth team right now?

At the end of the day, it looks like the present and the future are looking good for Rangers. Should they hold onto their key players at both the first team and the youth level of the organization, Gers fans should get used to a winning atmosphere at Ibrox.
