Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has a worse winning record at Rangers than the previous three failed Ibrox bosses.

Gerrard’s record as Ibrox boss is under serious scrutiny after being dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Aberdeen on Tuesday night, with fans looking for answers on the direction of the club under the Liverpool legend.

He may have qualified for the UEFA Europa League group stages but his record in domestic competitions is dire, having also been knocked out of the Scottish League Cup by the Dons and falling eight points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Of Gerrard’s 51 matches in charge so far he has won just 26, giving him a win percentage of just 51%.

Caretaker boss Graeme Murty managed 15 wins from 29, a 52% win ratio, while Pedro Caixinha’s percentage stands at 54% having won 14 from 26.

Mark Warburton, whose record is boosted by the fact Rangers were playing in the Scottish Championship for a season, won 37 times from 60 making his percentage stand-out at 61%.

Clearly Gerrard has made excellent progress with his team this season and also managed a big win over Celtic at Ibrox in December, but it does highlight that he might not be doing as good a job as some have suggested so far.

If he is to last at Ibrox long-term he needs to start turning draws into wins and offering more in the big matches, separating himself from the joke managers whose win records outshine his.

Ultimately this season we have spent a large amount of money, brought in high profile players and still lost out on two trophies thanks to Aberdeen.

It’s not good enough and hopefully Gerrard knows that.
