Sky pundit insists Steven Gerrard needs more time at Rangers despite pressure

|

Former Rangers favourite Lee McCulloch insists Steven Gerrard needs another transfer window at least to turn things round at Ibrox, speaking to Sky Sports.

The Gers boss is facing real pressure for the first time in his managerial career after seeing his side knocked out by Aberdeen in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup on Tuesday night.

Fans have been left asking serious questions about the direction he is taking the club, but McCulloch reckons that he has not yet had enough time to fully be judged.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Gers man said:

You’ve got to give him the time, he’s had two transfer windows. It’s hard when you’re in that position to get players out, as hard as it is to get players in.

So I would imagine come the summer there will be a few more go out and a few more go in as long as the board back him, and the team will look stronger again.

Since the new manager has come in, he’s strengthened the backbone of the team with experience, with winners, with a fantastic goalkeeper and leaders at centre-half.

The future will be looking good although there’s a lot of fans hurting at the moment.

McCulloch is not wrong with anything he says there and the majority of fans are still well behind the manager and his project at Ibrox.

Most fans accept that changing the manager every season is not feasible and Gerrard has at least put in solid building blocks to improve the club on a long-term basis and get back to challenging for major honours.

Let’s not forget that this season isn’t over yet either, a win at Celtic Park at the end of the month and everyone will be talking about a title race once again.

While going out of two competitions to Aberdeen is clearly not good enough, supporters must remain patient. It will be rewarded if we allow Gerrard to build something special.
