Former Rangers player Charlie Adam has admitted to BT Sports that a return to Ibrox could be on the cards this summer, if discussions with relegated Stoke City lead to his exit from the Britannia Stadium.

Adam was on media duties with BT at Ibrox on Thursday for Rangers’ first competitive match of the Steven Gerrard era. Talking about the club prior to the match on the outlet’s Periscope channel, he refused to rule out a return.

The 32-year-old said:

Listen it’s a situation that I don’t know what is going to happen. I have had a chat with the club at Stoke. We know the situation that we are in.

We will see and take it from there. There’s always an option (for me) – it’s Rangers.

It’s a big club, I enjoyed my time here when I was young and I had a great time here. You can never rule it out. To return to a club like this would be a wonderful option for me.

But at the moment I am contracted to Stoke and I am working hard in pre-season to try and force my way into the team.

Intriguing comments indeed.

If he did return to Glasgow, it would be nine years after initially leaving the club to join Blackpool. Enjoying a fantastic couple of years with the Seasiders, he eventually won a big move to Liverpool before ending up at current side Stoke City.

Although now 32 years of age, he has the kind of creativity that could be useful to the Gers this season and a return shouldn’t be ruled out completely. Gerrard has plenty of options in the middle of the park but does Adam have the kind of quality to improve the first team?
