Danny Wilson was obviously delighted to lift the Championship trophy in Saturday’s game against Alloa, but he admitted there was frustration with the game itself.

Drawing the match one all on the day to share the points wasn’t how anybody hoped the build up the celebrations would go, and Wilson addressed that in his post game press interviews.

Speaking to the Official Site, Wilson said the players had hoped to give a much better performance for the fans on the day – but everyone was thrilled to get their hands on the second trophy of the season so far.

‘It`s fantastic any time that you win a trophy. When I came back here this was obviously the main aim and we`ve done it now with a bit to spare. The performance wasn`t quite there today, but we are just delighted to get our hands on the trophy and get ourselves back where we want to be. It`s been a good season for us, some bad bits too. However days like today don`t come around that often, so we have to just get out and enjoy them. We just need to make sure that when next season comes around, we have more days like this.’

With Hibernian to come in the Scottish Cup final on May 21, Wilson said the team would be focused on improving their performances of late as we go into another trip to Hampden – especially with the possibility of European football on offer for next season as well.

‘It`s fantastic to have a Scottish Cup final to look forward too as well. A lot of people wrote us off before last Sunday, but we knew that we were capable of doing it. Now we have a Cup final to look forward to and we need to make sure that in our next few performances, we show why were are in that cup final and that we aren`t slackening off.’

Moving onto Barrie McKay, whilst the game was frustrating he couldn’t have enjoyed the lap of honour more and he knew plenty of people needed praise for the way Rangers have risen through the leagues in recent years. He’s also pleased with his own development this term, given he was out on loan with Raith and he wasn’t sure he’d get the chance to play his part.

‘It definitely feels as good to lift the trophy as I thought it would, especially after the journey that we`ve been through. It`s great to finally lift the cup and to be back to the top, where we belong.’

Speaking about his own rise and future, he went on to say the summer was an unsure time for him, but having been given a chance by manager Mark Warburton, he couldn’t have been more delighted to take that shot and shine.

‘I maybe didn`t think at this time last year that I would be here and lifting the trophy today as I didn`t know where I was going to be last summer. I always planned to be playing here and when the gaffer came here he told everyone that it was a clean slate and he put a lot of confidence in me, He told me that I had to go and impress and thankfully I`ve done that.’

As for the game itself, he ended by saying.

‘Sadly we didn`t get the win today, but there`s plenty more to come and we`ll now look on to the last remaining league games and the cup final. It would put the icing on the cake if we were able to go and win the Scottish Cup after winning the league and the Petrofac Cup.’
