In terms of finishing, Ally McCoist would have been proud of it!

Scotsman William Borland took the Alexandra Palace by storm with his blistering nine dart finish to clinch his World Championship first round tie. The East Calder native beat Englishman Bradley Brooks, in what was an unforgettable debut display at the PDC showpiece.

As the action unfolded and news went viral, it transpires that Borland is a Rangers fan thus elevating his achievement to another level amongst the masses of Bluenoses online.

This was amplified when darts players and YouTuber Matthew Edgar revealed a particular admiration that that Borland has for Ibrox winger Ryan Kent.

Just like that, the comments started, the tongue in cheek humour continued and further congratulations flooded in for the 25 year old:

@rangersbanter17 – “Knows his football the lad”

@douglas1_craig – “He had my intrigue with the 9 darter but now he has my respect.”

@kingham_ross – “Deserves that 9 darter ever more now”

@midfieldjack – “Disgrace, KDB doesn’t come close”

@gordmac1980 – “He knows darts and football. What a legend.”

In the end, Edgar could only say toward the man of the moment, “Think you have more fans for the Ryan Kent chat than the 9 darter”

Good luck to the lad in the next round and hopefully his time in the spotlight can continue at the Ally Pally – you can continue to watch all the action from the oche, right through the holidays, live on Sky Sports.
