Juan Alegria has attracted a lot of attention since arriving at Rangers from Finland, a goal scoring debut and his masculine physique prompting calls for him to be promoted to the first-team squad.

There is though two youngsters that will probably be ahead of him in the queue in the shape of Tony Weston and Charlie McCann, the former having already experienced senior football in his time at Blackpool before heading to Rangers in the summer.

The pair both scored hat-tricks in the 8-2 win over Edinburgh University in the Lowland League at the weekend, taking their tallies to a very respectable 19 and 9, just in the league, Weston now leading the goal scoring charts for the division and McCann proving just how good his all round game is by contributing at both ends of the park from the middle of midfield.

It’s early days for the pair but both are genuinely exciting prospects for the next 12-18 months in terms of potentially making the step up, we have had good players in the past like Josh McPake, Dapo Mebude and Kai Kennedy but none of them were capable of these sort of numbers,

The level of opposition has to be taken into consideration but they have been hugely impressive, the next step will invariably involve more time training with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad so that a decision can be made as to whether or not to loan them out at a higher level or if their development would be better served by staying at Auchenowie, either way, they are definitely the names to look out for in the future.
