Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho are two of the most valuable youngsters in football and yet, for £250,000 you could have signed both of them when they were teenagers.

This is where our scouting and recruitment department need to be earning their money, by unearthing the next superstars capable of going on to be internationals and make the club a fortune in the process, Haaland might be a once in a generation type of player, but the point remains.

In May, Vital Rangers highlighted Akinkunmi Amoo as one youngster tearing it up in Sweden’s Allsvenkan for Hammarby and that a summer move wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Nigerian youth cap before he becomes too expensive.

With the league over in Sweden, Amoo’s price tag has shot up from £90,000 in December 2020 to his current valuation of £3.6million due in no small part to his contribution of nine goals and six assists from 24 full games in terms of minutes played, a decent return for a 19-year old.

Even at over £3m he would be worth the investment, not only does he have the physical attributes needed to make it at the top but he is a composed finisher and moves effortlessly with the ball at his feet, he would be a genuine goal-scoring option for the right-hand side of our attack.

Nominated for the young player of the year in Sweden, his profile – like his value – is only going in one direction, don’t say we didn’t warn you Mr Wilson…
