Assistant manager David Weir has said he believes that despite frustration in recent weeks for Rangers, and a slower than hoped for start to the 2016/17 campaign and our return to the Premiership, that the players do have the character to grow into the expectations at the club.

With five wins so far this season and Rangers sitting eleven points off Celtic, Weir was pretty pragmatic as he spoke to the Evening Times during the international break, as he believes it’s been a steady start – despite hoping for more – but that with pressure on ahead of the Dundee match this weekend, he also pointed out again it was a period of adjustment for the players, as some haven’t tasted life in the top flight before – or for a long time – and that has to be factored in as a learning curve.

‘I think it does take time. Rangers is very unique in that respect and that demand is placed on you. We have got to be realistic as to some of the lads and where they have been and where we need them to be and what Rangers demands. I think they are learning all the time.’

Weir went on to say that simply put they are at the club because the management staff believe in them and their qualities, but everybody hits the ground running at different times and there is a lot more to come from them once they settle fully – especially with the added expectation.

‘Playing for Rangers can be difficult, the demands are really high and it doesn’t happen overnight. You have got to learn as you go along, learn from the tough days and tough results and enjoy the good ones as well. That takes time but we have got the right characters. As long as we keep giving the right message and doing the right things and look to improve then we will definitely get to where we want to be.’

Weir ended his interview by saying that the below par showing against Ross County is a learning curve, but whilst the result certainly wasn’t what anybody wanted, you can’t always be guided by the result as we had chances to win the game, so he also called on people not to over-analyse the bad results, and let the team improve on the areas they could’v been better in.
